New Wine No Baked Goods

Tonight my husband and I opened a bottle sent from my aunt in Alabama who is a real wino. She always suggests the best wines. We drank a Larkmead Vineyards 2004 Firebelle which is Merlot 49% Cabernet Sauvignon 34% Malbe 15% Petit Verdot 2%

It was fabulous. I had to have an excuse to open it up and I thought my husbands birthday was the perfect excuse. I would highly suggest it to anyone, however it is a bit pricey so special occasion only.

Something New

Today walking into work I was presently surprised by a bottle of wine. My boss really enjoys this and suggested it. I might break by routine and just drink the bottle (with help from husband) without baking. The Super Bowl is approaching so Justin is going to be swamped with work. I told him we need to enjoy a good bottle of wine before total craziness. So I’m sure you all (no one) is wondering just what type of wine it is…

Estanci – A red blend of 61% Cabernet Sav. 27% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot. This is a 2007. I’ll report back with the details.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Chocolate Chips

So to start off my new years resolution I started with something quick and easy. Yesterday I needed to bake a quick dessert for small group. I chose a quick and simple brownie found on food gawker (great site). I grabbed the recipie from a fellow bloggler “Judical Peach” (http://judicialpeach.com/2009/06/09/white-chocolate-and-chocolate-chip-blondies/)

We happen to have a Costco size bottle of Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a very easy, dry wine that I could casually drink.

Side note: I found that I mentioned Pinterest in and earlier blog…it is blowing up. Everyone is on Pinterest!!!

Been Forever

So I know it has been forever since I have posted. My new years resolution (2 weeks late) is be better about blogging. I want to say 3 times a week isn’t asking too much.

My other thought for this blog is to track what I bake and drink. I usually bake with a glass of wine in hand. So now I’m going to track the different types of wine I drink while baking. Hopefully I will be able to grow my blog and at the same time track and find that perfect (cheap) bottle of wine. For right now it will probably be limited on images. I am hopeful for a new camera to document for my birthday (April 3rd if you talk to my husband).

Here’s to the new year :)

Pinterest

So just this last week I’ve been doing a ton of baking and cooking, friends in ton…enough said. I’ve been slacking in my blogging. I’ve found that I have no fear when trying new dishes but if they aren’t presentation I have a problem taking photos and posting. However I do have a disadvantage I do need a better camera. It’s already on my Christmas wish list.

What I’ve learned…peach pie is so much better with fresh peaches and a cobbler crust.

Now you ask about the subject of this post…pinterest. Great new website/social networking/creative idea heaven. Check it out if you haven’t heard about it.

Ginger Wine

So there is actually something called “Ginger Wine”

Ginger Wine can be drunk on its own or over ice, but it is most famously drunk as a ‘Whisky Mac‘ when mixed with whisky. Ginger Wine can also be drunk with lemonade or other mixers such as ginger ale or bitter lemon. In Australia, a mixture of ginger wine and Toohey’s Old dark beer is drunk, particularly among university students.
